Carl Patten is a corporate attorney whose practice focuses on health care law, general corporate and transaction matters, value-based contracting, corporate governance, health care compliance, and government investigations and responses.
Carl currently serves as general counsel and chief administrative officer of a large provider group in Florida. He oversees legal, compliance, risk, and real estate for several physician provider organizations which include primary care, specialists, hospitalists, a management services organization (MSO) and an accountable care organization (ACO). Carl oversees the legal execution of all corporate and real estate transactions. He also has responsibility for managing all litigation, governance, risk and compliance. He has led complex real estate transactions and has consistently obtained excellent results in response to government investigations.
In a prior role, Carl built and led the Community Benefit department at Centura Health, a regional 17-hospital system serving Colorado and Kansas. Carl successfully partnered with the finance team to build and maintain the corporate infrastructure to meet IRS reporting requirements. Carl also led the public policy department at Florida Blue where he led a group of C-suite executives to align Florida Blue’s public policy positions with its mission and strategy.
Carl was also an adjunct professor at the University of North Florida where he taught courses in health policy and health care law and ethics. He is currently a board member of the American Board of Medical Specialties – the business league that represents 24 physician specialty boards that provide certification of physicians of their respective specialties. Carl also serves as a business advisor to an AI-enabled voice platform tailored to healthcare providers.
Carl is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College, the University of Chicago Law School, and the Harvard School of Public Health. He is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and Texas.
